Abraham Lincoln
Abraham Lincoln was the president of the union army (the north), he fought to abolish slavery in the United States. He actually fought in the war alongside other soldiers, in fact 2 years before he was assasinated he got shot twice but still survived! He was the Commander in chief of the union army, which is the highest ranking military officer. President Lincoln was also famous for two things. One of them was the Emancipation Proclamation, which declared that slaves in the South would be free. The second thing he was famous for was the Gettysburg Address, which was a speech he gave that honored the soldiers who died in the Civil War. He was born Febuary 12, 1809. He died April 15, 1865. Location of death: Washington, DC. Cause of death: Assasination. He was the sixteenth president in the United States and is now on the five dollar bill.
