Process Paper
Why we chose this topic:
We chose this topic because we were interested In the Civil War and how it changed history. Also, we learned about important roles of presidents last year in civics and found that Abraham Lincoln was the one to take action against segregation and slavery of African Americans. We also wanted to learn more about different actions that the Civil War changed later in the future. With decent amount of knowledge about Abraham Lincoln and the Civil War, we decided to conduct more research about this topic and how it was a turning point in history.
How we conducted our research:
First, we found out what we needed to know about our topic by finding out what we didn’t know. Examples: The Civil War lead to military innovations, all the battles that took place in the war, and the leaders of the war. Then, we went to the computer lab and did more research on
some of the things we didn’t know by going on different websites that shared information about our topic. After that, each person in the group had to do their own share of the work. We each researched ten sources by going on the internet to watch educational videos and saw examples on the NHD website. Also, we read little text about our topic on the internet.
How we created and developed our website:
First we chose our topic, which was the Civil War. Then we researched on what we didn’t know about the war by going on the internet. After doing the researching, we organized our findings into a time-line. Example: Before the war, during, and after. We realized that there was too much information on the Civil War. After we were sorting out all our findings about the Civil War, we thought it would be a great idea to do a website. We chose to do the website because we could easily sort out the information. We’re still working on the website and trying to make it interesting and fun at the same time.
How our topic relates to the theme:
Our topic relates to the theme in many ways. Our project was on the Civil War. Because it was a huge turning point in history, it fits the theme perfectly. For example: The slaves we freed, meaning that segregation and slavery we abolished. Also some stuff that failed for war tactics was later improved after the war. These are some examples of why the Civil War was a turning point. It led to something new because we learned from our mistakes. And this is how our topic relates to our theme; turning points in U.S history.
